A Lesson on Privilege.

A Thought Adjuster Speaks - Lesson # 106
November 15, 2004.

Let us have a lesson in a different vein; that of privilege. So much in life is taken for granted, but it is good to occasionally ponder about how privileged one actually is. You have been given life, and the free will to choose about how to conduct yourself in life through the decision making process, which occurs from moment to moment, albeit most often unconsciously. Most decisions have become habit, or customary, and do not fall into the category of choice, unless something drastic happens, which upsets the way of living and of doing things. Sometimes unexpected events can and do happen, and therefore it is never good to be in a rut of habit when there is no room for ‘bending’ any more, and life looks grey when looking back on it. One always ought to see light on the path when looking back on life.

They are the spontaneous things in life; the happy moments, which bring deep satisfaction in life, and which bring happy and worthwhile memories. The episodes, which have brought you the greatest amount of growth in character, are the ones when passing through difficult periods. They were, and are, often the most painful experiences, when a lot of different thoughts and circumstances enter your life. These are life-changing moments that ‘catapult’ you into a new and higher level of awareness. Ponder also how many moments you have experienced, which caused you reason to be so incredibly happy that you felt a spontaneous thankfulness welling up from deep inside of you, and when you felt privileged to have experienced such exalted moments.

You notice that I do not speak about privilege as the world sees it and know it, because those things of ‘being born with a silver spoon in the mouth’ are not really privileges. They can be a hinder to growth, as they are transitory. The privileges I am speaking of are the more enduring. They are the values in, and of life that you gather within your own person and character -- those insights you have gathered through experiences, which have given you wisdom and have enriched your character. Bear in mind that the values of truth, beauty and goodness are the ones to be obtained, so you can get a ‘head start’ so to speak in the next life, which is your eternal existence. This head start is gained through the loving service you give another. It is through the loving communities you build together, where people realize that it is a privilege to offer their help and expertise, where nothing is taken for granted, for ultimately you will come to know that life is fragile, and can be taken away at any moment.

So live your life in such a way that you will have no regrets. It is in becoming aware that you start being a beginning spiritual person, who has been gifted with a material temple to start the journey into life everlasting. This is your purpose here in life; to start realizing this, and to start working towards a greater conscious awareness by living day by day as in the presence of God, which is what you are doing, but rarely are you aware of this. It is the greatest privilege in your life to give daily time to God, and ponder how you can establish an unbroken bond with the All That Is. Each normal thinking human being has the capacity to turn within, and seek for that connection. Heart and soul yearn for it, for it is the culmination of a life well lived. On looking back on your life at a more advanced age, you will notice that the golden moments were gathered during the times when you were in an ‘at-one-ment’ with the eternal Creator God.
