Thought Adjuster: “You can already notice that when you experience moments of spiritual connection, that is when you are truly alive—and these moments are never forgotten, because they are not under the jurisdiction of the mortal mind. Rather, they are safeguarded by the Inner Spirit, your Thought Adjuster, and therefore these moments are ‘eternalized.’ Your spiritual achievements are preserved and remembered to promote continuous progress. You will not go back to relearn the lessons you have already learned unless you choose to do so. Spiritual progress is always built upon the foundation of previous achievements. You will never have to start from zero again.
Even if your mortal mind were to fail, everything you have achieved up to now will be preserved, and upon awakening in a new body, you will be able to continue building exactly from where you left off during your material life. The universe is eternally just, and the only thing that can prevent your progress throughout all creation is your own will.
Very few human beings in this world cultivate those transcendent moments in which they are able to observe themselves from a higher perspective. Those moments are when a human being can, for an instant, see themselves in relation to their spiritual origin and destiny. This represents a quantum leap in spiritual perception, for the creature effectively rises above its origin to view itself from a non-material level. These are the first signs that the human spiritual will has begun to function, as was first observed in the times of Andon and Fonta.
Being truly conscious in life—being awake—goes far beyond the human ability to observe one’s own thoughts and know that one is thinking. Many animals possess this rudimentary form of consciousness, which is basically the mental representation of their own self in relation to the rest of the world. This is what allows an animal to fight another for a piece of food: it has a mortal image that says, ‘I need to eat, and I don’t care what the other one needs.’
Only human beings can rise far above this conception of the self to ask where they come from and where they are going. This is what has created the civilization you now enjoy—and therein lies your great weakness, because many have stopped asking these transcendent questions.
You might ask, how is that possible if we are constantly producing new things, better technologies, better methods, and so on? Many of the truly great achievements of the past were driven by those who had a sense of purpose. For example, someone once imagined that it would be beneficial for civilization to have a method of constant communication across all corners of the world. That idea gave rise to the telephone and many other inventions that eventually led to today’s Internet. However, what percentage of the Internet is dedicated to the original idea of promoting the advancement of civilization? For many, the Internet is just another source of distractions and useless things that add no value to human life.
At present, you can create many new things to function on the Internet, but how many of those innovations aim to uplift the world and solve its problems? Most human imagination in this area is focused solely on making money. Very few use the potential of the Internet to unite the world. And we mention the Internet only as an example—many more examples could be given in science, in advances in medicine, and so on. Yes, there is much apparent progress, but how has the quality of human life improved because of it? How much has the spiritual level of the world been elevated thanks to the advances of your society? Are there better prospects for the future today than there were a hundred or a thousand years ago? With the way you are exploiting the resources of your world, it is evident to some among you that you will face a major crisis of your own making.
Do not confuse technological or material progress with spiritual progress. However, there are some among you who are beginning to awaken, and the approaching crisis will greatly help them realize that the path they have chosen has not been the most productive. Then, the urgency to seek alternatives for survival will outweigh the desire for immediate rewards, and it will be at that point that ideas which are now dismissed as irrelevant and impractical will become the new foundations upon which you will build a better and more enduring civilization.”
